Carousel Cake

2 Oct

One of my favourite customers ordered this cake for her first grand daughters 1st birthday. Her daughter had a carousel cake for her 1st birthday and they wanted to make this a tradition. I had so much fun making this cake and I have to say that it’s one of my favourites.

Skull and Crossbones Pirate Cake

20 Feb

This cake was made for the 10 year old son of some great clients of mine. The skull was white chocolate mudcake and the bones were caramel mudcake, both with white chocolate ganache. Other cakes I’ve made for this family are the Betty Boop Cake and the Skateboard Cake.

Angelina Ballerina Cake

25 Jan

I loved making this cake for my daughter. She has recently discovered Angelina Ballerina and didn’t want a butterfly cake, which is what I’d been planning on making her.

The Angelina figure is made from gumpaste. I got the inspiration from Cake Bosses Coney Island Freaks cake and the hand-painting inspiration from Neviepiescakes photostream, who does amazing hand-painting on her cakes.

Ben 10 Cake

2 Jan

My youngest little man turned 5 last week and this is the cake I made him. His birthday being so close to Christmas he sometimes doesn’t get such a great cake but I really tried to make the effort this year. The inspiration for this cake came from this flickr photo. The bottom tier was white chocolate mud cake with white chocolate ganache, the top tier was vanilla cake with white chocolate ganache.

World Industries Skate Board Cake

22 Oct

I made this for a friends son.

What did I learn?

I’m a lot happier with  how my cakes are looking lately.

I would really, really like an air brush.

I LOVE using modelling chocolate and will use it on my next project, next month.

Another Halo Cake

8 May

I love making carved cakes and my son didn’t just ask for a Halo head, he wanted the shoulders too, so I made a bust. I had so much fun making this cake and I’ve been practicing making mud cakes so the cake was moist and chocolatey with chocolate ganache. I even remembered to take photos of the process of making this carved cake.

I then ran out of time and forgot to take more photos. But I will tell you. I made the whole thing white and then coloured it. I used chalks to make the blue parts. I felt that the coverage was not what I wanted so I added chalk dust to vodka and painted the shoulder plates. This still didn’t give the coverage I was looking for…. oh for an air brush…. For the black I added chalk dust to vodka and painted it. All in all I was very pleased with the result.

What did I learn?

I REALLY want and air brush.

I REALLY want an air brush.

and I REALLY want an air brush.
